About Us

Project K9 isn’t for everyone.

We’re not here to hand out treats and hope your dog “figures it out.”

We’re here for owners who are tired of the chaos… tired of being ignored… and ready for real change.

Project K9 was founded in 2016 with a clear mission—help dog owners take back control and build obedient, reliable dogs.

Over the years, we’ve worked with everything from basic obedience cases to dogs with serious behavior issues.

Then like many small businesses, things slowed down.

But here’s the truth—this was never just a business.

This is purpose.

And Project K9 is focused, and more committed than ever to delivering the kind of results that change homes for good.

We Don't Just Train Dogs. We Develop People.

Welcome to Project K9 — The Dogmanship Method™.

Project K9 was built around a simple idea:
A better dog starts with a better relationship.

Too often, dog training focuses on getting a dog to perform commands. Sit. Stay. Heel. Come.
But what happens when the leash comes off?
What happens when another dog appears?
What happens when the doorbell rings, someone comes into your home, or your dog is overwhelmed by the real world?

That's where true training begins.

At Project K9, we don't believe in simply managing problems. We believe in developing the dog, the owner, and the relationship between them.

Our Philosophy

The Dogmanship Method™ is our approach to developing reliable dogs and confident owners through communication, leadership, structure, and relationship.

Rather than relying on constant food rewards or teaching a collection of isolated commands, we focus on helping dogs understand what is expected of them while teaching owners how to communicate clearly and consistently.
Our training is built around five foundational principles:
MORE THAN DOG TRAINING

We believe many dog problems aren't really dog problems.

They're communication problems.

They're leadership problems.

They're consistency problems.

Sometimes the owner has never been taught how to communicate with a dog in a way the dog actually understands.

That's why Project K9 includes owner development in our training philosophy.

We're not interested in creating owners who constantly micromanage their dogs.

We want to create owners who understand their dogs well enough to lead them confidently.

Because when the human changes, the relationship changes.
And when the relationship changes, the dog often changes with it.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Alex Covington

Project K9 was founded by Alex Covington, a dog trainer, coach, minister, husband, father, and lifelong student of human and animal behavior.

Alex began developing his approach through hands-on experience working with dogs and their owners—not simply by teaching commands, but by studying the relationship between communication, leadership, behavior, and state of mind.

Over the years, that experience evolved into what is now known as The Dogmanship Method™.

Alex's philosophy is straightforward:
Don't just ask, "How do I stop my dog from doing this?"

Ask:
"Why is my dog doing this, and what needs to change in our relationship?"

That question changes everything.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to help people build dogs they can live with, trust, and enjoy—and relationships that don't fall apart when life gets difficult.

We work with owners who are tired of constantly managing their dogs.

Owners dealing with pulling, jumping, reactivity, disobedience, anxiety, aggression, overexcitement, poor impulse control, and other behavioral challenges.

But we're also here for the owner who simply wants more from their relationship with their dog.

More communication.
More freedom.
More confidence.
More trust.
More partnership.

THIS IS DOGMANSHIP

Dogmanship isn't about dominating a dog.

It's not about bribing a dog.

And it's not about expecting a dog to magically understand what you want.

It's about learning how dogs communicate—and learning how to communicate back.

It's about leadership without confusion.
Structure without fear.

Freedom built on reliability.

And a relationship built on understanding.

That's Project K9.
That's The Dogmanship Method™.

Lead the Dog.

Build the Relationship.

Change the Life.
